Tangrams is a classic dissection puzzle, one of the most popular in the world. It consists of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. It was originally invented in China at some unknown date in history. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape, given only an outline or silhouette, using all seven pieces, which may not overlap.
Enjoy Momath’s large custom-made set of tangrams, and use it to try and create some of the pretty and interesting shapes shown. Trying to place the large pieces on the Enigma Café tables is an added challenge!
Tangrams can provide unending puzzling and artistic challenges - over 6500 shapes have been compiled from 19th century texts alone! They include animals, birds, human figures in various poses, ships, and all kinds of still life.
